BOARD APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF
SECONDARY CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
Sims promotion among recent district personnel announcements
Marietta, GA– The Marietta Board of Education recently named Dr. Margaret Sims as the new
Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction for the district. Sims’ promotion became effective
July 12.
Sims is an educator with nineteen years experience working in both the middle and high school settings in Mississippi and Georgia. As the secondary literacy coach for the Marietta City School (MCS) system since 2003, Sims provided professional development for teachers and developed administrative teams to help create a school culture of literacy. She began her career at MCS in 1996 as an English teacher at Marietta High School (MHS). Her work there included teaching English in the International Baccalaureate program.
A graduate of Delta State University, in Cleveland, Mississippi, Sims earned a Doctorate in Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision Studies, as well as, a Master of Education in English, and a
Bachelor of Art in English at that institution. Sims is a member of the Georgia Council of Teachers
of English, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is the recipient of
numerous awards and honors including, First runner up for Georgia Teacher of the Year 2003, and
the American Association of University Women Award.
Other recent personnel announcements at MCS include, Karen Smits named as Director of
School Improvement; Cathy Magouyrk named as Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction;
and Dr. Rona Roberts named as Administrative Assistant for Special Services.
